13-Year-Old Charged with Attempted Murder in Greenwood Shooting Incident

GREENWOOD, Ind. — A 13-year-old has been arrested for a shooting incident that critically injured another juvenile, according to the Greenwood Police Department.

On Sunday at 1 a.m., officers responded to a residence on Crescent Drive following reports of an attempted suicide. Upon arrival, they discovered a 13-year-old boy suffering from a gunshot wound. He was immediately transported to Riley Hospital, where he is currently listed in critical condition.

Investigators believe that five other juveniles, who were acquainted with the victim, were present during the incident. It appears all six juveniles were playing with a firearm when one of them—a 13-year-old resident of Greenwood—pointed the gun at the victim and shot him. After the shooting, the five other juveniles fled the scene. Twenty minutes later, the suspected shooter called 911, claiming there had been an attempted suicide at the location.

The juvenile suspect has now been arrested and faces preliminary charges of attempted murder. He is currently being held in the Johnson County Juvenile Detention Facility.
