Ex-Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee Selected as Next US Ambassador to Israel
President-elect Donald Trump has nominated former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee to serve as the U.S. ambassador to Israel.
This nomination is significant in light of the ongoing conflicts involving Israel and Hamas, as well as Iranian-backed militants in the region.
"Mike has been a great public servant, Governor, and Leader in Faith for many years. He loves Israel, and the people of Israel, and likewise, the people of Israel love him," Trump stated. "Mike will work tirelessly to bring about Peace in the Middle East!"
Trump has consistently shown his support for Israel while also advocating for an end to hostilities in Gaza.
The current conflict began over a year ago with a Hamas attack on Israel that resulted in over 1,200 fatalities. In response, Israel launched military strikes against Hamas targets in Gaza. In October, it was reported that Israeli forces killed Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar.
However, criticism has arisen regarding Israel's approach to the war. The Gaza Health Ministry reports that more than 40,000 Palestinians, including many women and children, have lost their lives in this ongoing conflict.
