Multiple Shootings in Indianapolis Result in One Fatality and Several Injuries

INDIANAPOLIS — A series of violent incidents in Indianapolis over the weekend resulted in one fatality and several injuries. According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department, at least eight individuals were shot between Saturday afternoon and early Sunday morning.

Among these incidents, one was fatal, with two others sustaining critical injuries. The remaining victims are reported to be in stable condition. Four shootings occurred on the west and southwest sides of the city.

The first shooting took place at 1:40 p.m. on Saturday at a gas station in the 10000 block of West 42nd Street, where two individuals were found shot; both are currently in stable condition.

Later that evening, around 6 p.m., another shooting occurred in the 3800 block of Michigan Street, resulting in a fatality. Authorities have not yet determined the circumstances surrounding this incident. Shortly after, a man was critically injured in a shooting on Denison Street.

The violence extended into early Sunday morning when officers responded to a stolen vehicle report at the 6000 block of West Lake South Drive. While investigating, they heard gunfire and observed a vehicle speeding towards them.

Inside that vehicle, officers discovered a woman suffering from a gunshot wound to her neck. She was promptly transported to Eskenazi Hospital in critical condition. While police recovered the stolen vehicle, it is unclear whether she was connected to that theft. As of now, no suspects have been apprehended for either shooting or for the vehicle theft.

“Any act of violence in the city is a tragic one,” said Ofc. Drew Brown, a public information officer with IMPD. “Anytime there’s a loss of life, that’s a family torn apart—a family receiving news nobody wants to hear. Our detectives will work diligently to uncover what led up to these events.”

Authorities urge anyone with information about any of these shootings to reach out to local law enforcement or Crime Stoppers.
