"Jeremy Takes on Black Friday in Retail"
Part 1: Stepping into Retail at Englin’s Fine Footwear
INDIANAPOLIS — This Black Friday, I swapped my anchor desk for a pair of sneakers as I dove into the bustling world of retail at Englin’s Fine Footwear in Keystone Fashion Mall.
The busiest shopping day of the year kicked off with a surge of customers within the first hour, all eager to hunt for deals. Store manager Trent Bryant captured the essence of the day perfectly.
“It’s always a crazy day, but it’s exciting,” Bryant said. “Having extra team members, even seasonal ones, makes a huge difference.”
I joined the dedicated team by greeting customers, organizing shelves, and assisting at the register. Despite this being my first experience in retail, Bryant graded my performance with an impressive A-minus.
Part 2: Fashion Finds at Marc Jacobs
After wrapping up my shift at Englin’s, I headed over to Marc Jacobs to explore high fashion retail. The newly opened store was alive with shoppers, including one customer named Kara who needed help choosing between two stunning handbags.
“Seasonal positions are such a great opportunity,” said store manager Alyssa Norwalk. “The hours and pay are excellent, and who doesn’t love getting access to Marc Jacobs merchandise?”
I jumped in to assist Kara by sharing my thoughts on which bag suited the season best. Ultimately, she made her choice; however, I found myself tempted by one of the bags as well!
Norwalk recognized my efforts with an A-plus rating.
Conclusion: Black Friday Success
This Black Friday adventure highlighted the hard work and commitment that retail teams put forth during this crucial shopping day. From Englin’s Fine Footwear to Marc Jacobs, I experienced firsthand the teamwork necessary to keep stores thriving amid holiday rushes and how valuable seasonal positions can be.
