Indianapolis Ballet Presents Intimate New Mixed-Repertoire Performance
The Indianapolis Ballet's latest production, “New Works,” invites audiences to gain an intimate insight into the intricacies of choreographing a ballet.
“We do this every year as part of our season because it gives an opportunity for us to be on Mass Avenue, but [also] up-close and personal with our audiences,” said Founding Artistic Director Victoria Lyras.
This performance features seven premieres that highlight the talent of both the artists and artistic staff at the Indianapolis Ballet. Attendees will have the chance to engage directly with the performers during a Q&A session.
“We do have a Q&A during intermission where the audiences can truly participate and ask any questions they may have about the process [and] the dancers,” Lyras explained. “We enjoy doing it because we get to know our audiences and build our audiences, and it keeps the arts here alive.”
For artists like Lucy Merz, who will debut her new work in this production, keeping the arts vibrant is essential.
“I've been choreographing and creating movement to music for as long as I can remember,” Merz shared. “It's really the driving force behind my career as a dancer.”
Merz expressed gratitude for her collaboration with the skilled creatives at Indianapolis Ballet: “I'm just so easily able to translate what's in my head onto them, and it's just wonderful to see.”
You can experience “New Works” at The District Theatre on Mass Avenue from now until Sunday.
