Indianapolis Opera Chorus to Deliver Powerful Message in Christmas Concert

The Indianapolis Opera Chorus is set to embark on an exciting new venture: their very first Christmas concert.

“It was something that we started discussing last year,” said Dr. Shederick Whipple. “We wanted to have something for the season.”

Titled “Voices of Christmas,” this special event will take place at the Basile Opera Center on Sunday, December 22. The concert will also feature a string quartet from the Indianapolis Youth Orchestra.

“I think this is going to be a real family event,” remarked Maestro Alfred Savio. “We’re going to be performing a piece called ‘The Musicological Journey Through the Twelve Days of Christmas.’”

This captivating work spans musical styles from 6th century Italy to 20th century America, celebrating each day of the “Twelve Days of Christmas.”

The performance is a collaborative effort by the talented members of the chorus.

“We felt like we as the chorus have a lot to say,” Whipple explained. “We're all artists. Many of us participate in various ensembles throughout the city, so we wanted to collectively join together and present a Christmas concert.”

“Voices of Christmas” will run for approximately 75 minutes, and attendees are invited to enjoy a "Cookies & Cocoa" reception following the performance. Tickets are priced at $25.
