Brownsburg Seeks Public Input for Lincolnwood Park Master Plan

Brownsburg is seeking public input on a master plan for Lincolnwood Park, which could bring significant changes to the area.

The master plan, presented to the Town Council, includes a pool, amphitheater, and recreation center, as well as walking/biking trails, natural drainage and floodway, and parking.

Parks Director Amber Lane emphasized that these amenities are what residents have been asking for. “As the Town of Brownsburg continues to grow, they want to continue to come inside the town to recreate," she said. “People want to live here, they want to work here, but they also want to play here.”

However, not everyone is on board with the plan. Rob Kendall described it as a "monstrosity" and argued that there is strong opposition due to the cost to the community. “Listen to the people. The people have already spoken on this. They’re overwhelmingly against this,” he said.

The Town of Brownsburg purchased the 46-acre property in June 2018, and Town Council President Travis Tschaenn noted that the project has been in the works for six or seven years. “We’ve gone through a few iterations. Hopefully this is the last one," he said.

The project is estimated to cost between $85 million and $92 million. What comes next is figuring out how to fund it, Tschaenn said. “That’ll be a decision the council has to make. At that point in time we’ll make a decision to do a phase project, a buy-operate-transfer or do a referendum," he said.

The Town is now seeking public feedback on the plan and will accept input for the next 30 days. Residents can provide their thoughts online.
