Downtown Indianapolis Holiday Tradition Draws to a Close
INDIANAPOLIS — A beloved holiday tradition in downtown Indianapolis is coming to an end after two decades. This season marks the final appearance of the “Light Brite” tree, located in the lobby of the AES Indiana building.
AES Indiana announced on social media that the tree will be retired in January due to “normal wear and tear on the bulbs over the years.”
Affectionately named “Light Brite,” this festive display has been a staple of holiday celebrations since its creation in 1995, featuring around 17,000 light bulbs. Initially powered by a robust 200 amp panel—similar to what would be used for an entire home—the tree was upgraded to 100% LED lights in 2010.
The Light Brite tree will remain on view in the building’s lobby until Monday, January 6, 2025.
