Fountain Square Commemorates Small Business Saturday

INDIANAPOLIS — Fountain Square was bustling with shoppers as they celebrated Small Business Saturday.

The National Retail Federation anticipates that nearly 64.5 million people will participate in this annual event, supporting local businesses across the country.

In Fountain Square, local business owners expressed their enthusiasm for the occasion. Many shops opened their doors at 9 a.m., welcoming customers despite the chilly morning air.

“It’s going to be a fun day! We get a lot of business and good energy, so hope everyone comes out,” said Brooke Tuggle, co-owner of Tuggle’s.

Tuggle mentioned that their store offers a wide range of items, perfect for holiday gifting—from stocking stuffers to unique presents.

“Everything that we have on here is on sale. We even have flowers and all kinds of art goodies,” she noted.

This year, Tuggle’s is also providing an opportunity for children to write letters to Santa.

“We have Santa visiting in a couple of weeks, and he’ll be responding to all of our letters and dropping off his replies here.”

Santa is scheduled to visit Tuggle’s on December 14th.

According to the United States Census Bureau, projected spending in the U.S. by those who shopped locally on Small Business Saturday is estimated at around $17 billion in 2023. Since its inception in 2010, total reported spending during this event has reached approximately $201 billion nationwide.
