Massachusetts Avenue Event Center Sees Tragic Discovery: Woman Found Shot Dead

Indianapolis police discovered a devastating scene on Massachusetts Avenue when they responded to a report of a disturbance and a person shot around 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday. The tragic discovery was made at an event center in the commercial area, roughly halfway between North Arlington Avenue and Shadeland Avenue.

Capt. John Arvin with IMPD said during an impromptu news conference at the scene that a man in custody was a suspect in the shooting.

Upon arriving at the scene, investigators found multiple shell casings, suggesting more than one weapon may have been used. The county's crime lab technicians were analyzing the area about 80 minutes after the incident.

Officers were reviewing surveillance footage from nearby businesses and homes to gather clues, as well as speaking with multiple witnesses who witnessed the shooting, Capt. Arvin explained.
