Native Tree Swap Returns to Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation
Carmel Clay Parks & Recreation is once again offering its popular Invasive for Native Tree Swap program throughout April. This initiative aims to promote awareness and removal of invasive species that can harm the environment. To participate, simply remove one or more invasive species from your property, and CCPR will reimburse you with a three-gallon native tree sapling.
The available native tree species are river birch, redbud, pagoda dogwood, and common witch-hazel. To receive your sapling, take a photo of the invasive plants you've removed and email it to [email protected]. You will then be contacted to schedule a time for pickup. Please note that there is a limit of one sapling per household, available while supplies last. Non-residents are also welcome to participate.
Invasive species can cause significant harm to the environment and should be removed as soon as possible. "Unlike native species, invasive species are not native to Indiana and can cause long-lasting harm to the environment," notes an expert. "Invasive species can outcompete native species for vital resources like water, sunlight and soil, leading to a decline in native populations over time."
