New Food Pantry Opens at Local Church

A church on Indianapolis' west side has launched a new food pantry to combat food insecurity in the area. The pantry was celebrated with song, dance, and a meal at "Jesus Christ is My Refuge" church, where leaders say people have been training for months to make it happen.

"We've had people working tirelessly behind the scenes to get this up and running," said a church leader. "This celebration honors their graduation and hard work. We're not just about feeding families – we want to uplift those we serve."

The pantry aims to address food insecurity in an area considered a food desert, where access to healthy groceries is limited. According to second helpings, one-in-six people in central Indiana struggle with food insecurity, making it a significant issue.
