Thanksgiving Turkey Distribution Benefits Hundreds in Need
INDIANAPOLIS — In the spirit of giving, community members gathered to ensure that those in need could enjoy a Thanksgiving meal.
“As you can see, the need is great and I come from this community, so to be able to come to the community and to share,” said Pastor Kenneth Sullivan Jr. of New Direction Church.
On Saturday, New Direction Church hosted its annual Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway at Arlington Middle School, attracting hundreds of individuals eager to receive support.
“If I got food, my family could eat, friends can eat, we can all eat on Thanksgiving,” expressed Shirley Allen.
The food for the giveaway was generously donated by local residents. This event comes at a time when food prices continue to rise; according to the Indiana Farm Bureau, the average cost of a Thanksgiving meal for a family of 10 exceeds $53.
“The world is in such chaos, so it’s a great thing they can do it,” Allen added.
This initiative alleviates some of the financial burden associated with putting food on the table during the holiday season for many Hoosiers.
“It’s a blessing to be a blessing, and I believe all of us are supposed to rise to the call to be a blessing to our community,” Pastor Sullivan remarked.
The church anticipated distributing approximately 2,500 meals on Saturday.
