Warm St. Patrick's Day Ahead with Sunshine
A !
As we head into the upcoming week, things should quiet down a bit after last week's active weather.
Monday:
High pressure will settle in throughout the day, bringing plenty of sunshine for your St. Patrick's Day celebrations. As the high moves to the east, we can expect slightly warmer temperatures and a southerly flow, with highs topping out in the low to mid-50s across central Indiana.
Monday night:
A few clouds will roll in as we head into the evening and overnight hours, accompanied by some wind picking up ahead of the next midweek system. Overnight lows will fall to the upper 30s and lower 40s.
Tuesday:
An upper-level system will start working its way through the central parts of the country on Tuesday, bringing dry conditions during the day. However, with this system to our west gaining strength, we can expect winds to pick up a bit in the afternoon, with gusts potentially exceeding 30 mph.
Temperatures will be mild, topping out in the upper 60s and lower 70s.
Wednesday:
An area of low pressure will continue to intensify to our west and move closer to the state, ramping up our gradient winds with gusts potentially peaking over 40 mph. This could put us at borderline wind advisory criteria.
Scattered showers and a rumble of thunder could be possible on Wednesday, but the threat for severe weather is pretty low. However, with higher wind gusts, you can't rule out a severe storm that could produce some nasty winds in the afternoon and evening hours.
High temperatures will top out in the mid and upper 60s.
Thursday:
The midweek storm system will move over the state on Thursday, bringing blustery winds with gusts exceeding 30 mph. Most importantly, it will bring a rush of very chilly air, with scattered rain chances in the pre-daybreak hours potentially flipping to snow showers through the morning drive and up to lunchtime.
High temperatures will only hit the mid-40s.
7 day forecast:
The cold air shot will be relatively brief in this forecast. We should bounce back to the mid to upper 50s for highs with a quiet day on Friday. A very weak upper-level wave will move in on Saturday, sparking some scattered light showers for the afternoon and evening hours as highs hold in the upper 50s and lower 60s. Sunday does look to be dry with highs in the low to mid-60s.
The long-range pattern puts temperatures right at or slightly above average over the next 8 to 14 days, with the average high for the end of March typically in the mid-50s.
