Road Safety Audit Reveals Collision Issues at Northeast Indianapolis Intersection
INDIANAPOLIS — An alarming number of over 90 crashes at a single intersection has prompted city leaders to consider significant changes. This data was revealed in a road safety audit conducted by the City of Indianapolis.
The intersection in question is located at Binford Blvd. and Kessler Blvd., which has been identified as having the highest incidence of fatal and serious injury crashes during January and February of this year.
“If it can be prevented, I don’t know why it’s not being prevented; it’s sad for everybody involved,” said neighbor Nikki Jewell.
City data reveals that approximately 44% of these accidents were rear-end collisions. To address these issues, the city is exploring several near-term solutions.
One proposed change includes modifying signal timing and replacing flashing yellow lights with protected left-turn arrows for drivers.
“Slow down. Please stop texting; a lot of those cars have kids in them who are heading to school as we all know,” urged Jimmy Cain.
The city plans to conduct its next Road Safety Audit in one month to further evaluate the situation.
