Tragic Collision in Shelby County Claims Life of Child

SHELBY COUNTY, IN — A tragic crash on Saturday evening claimed the life of a six-year-old child and resulted in multiple injuries in east Shelby County.

At approximately 6 p.m., a man and woman from Shelbyville were traveling with the child in a 2005 Ford Explorer. They were heading east on S.R. 44 when they stopped to turn north onto C.R. 600E.

Behind them, a 2011 Chevrolet Tahoe failed to slow down or swerve, according to the Sheriff’s Department. The Tahoe, driven by a 43-year-old woman from Indianapolis, collided with the rear of the Ford Explorer.

The impact caused the Ford Explorer to spin into oncoming traffic, where it was struck by a Chrysler Town and Country van traveling westbound. This van was operated by an Arlington man and carried four juveniles.

Following the accident, several passengers sustained injuries and were transported to local hospitals. The condition of those injured has not yet been disclosed by the Shelby County Sheriff’s Department.
