Andrew Luck Taps Former Colts Head Coach for Stanford Role

Andrew Luck has brought in a familiar face to help lead Stanford football - his former Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich. Reich has agreed to serve as the Cardinal's interim head football coach for one year while the university searches for a replacement for former head coach Troy Taylor, who was fired last week.

The decision reunites Reich with Luck, who serves as Stanford's general manager and was instrumental in Taylor's firing. As quarterback, Luck led the Colts to their first playoff appearance in four years during his final season under Reich's coaching in 2019.

"Andrew Luck won't let you get away from him," Reich said of their time together on the field. "He had a tremendous work ethic and was always pushing himself to be better."

Luck's decision to let Taylor go came after ESPN reported an alleged employee abuse case. The university had been gearing up for spring football under Taylor's leadership before his sudden departure.

The Cardinal camp opens on Tuesday, with the annual spring game scheduled for April 26. Stanford will start its season on August 23 against Hawai'i.

Reich previously coached the Colts from 2018-22 and was fired during an abysmal 4-12-1 season three years ago. He then briefly served as the Carolina Panthers' head coach before being let go.
