Caitlin Clark Weighs In on Flagrant Foul Against Angel Reese

The WNBA season is off to a dramatic start. The Indiana Fever dominated the Chicago Sky 93-58 in their season opener, but the game wasn't without controversy.

Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese nearly came to blows after Clark fouled Reese near the basket, prompting an officials' review that upgraded the contact to a flagrant foul. A double technical foul was also assessed to both Reese and Aliyah Boston, who intervened to hold Reese back from Clark.

Clark addressed the confrontation in the postgame press conference:

Caitlin Clark: "Let's not make it anything that it's not. It was just a good play on the basketball. I'm not sure what the refs saw to upgrade it. That's up to their discretion after watching the initial whatever happened during the play and whatever happened after."

Clark believes the foul was simply a "take foul" to send Reese to the free throw line rather than giving up two points. She insisted she wasn't trying to do anything malicious:

Caitlin Clark: "I went for the ball. That's clear as day in the replay. You watch it. It shouldn't have been upgraded, but again, that's up to the refs' discretion."

Reese was brief in her postgame comments:

Angel Reese: "Basketball play. Refs got it right, move on."

Boston didn't realize she had been given a technical foul until the press conference:

Aliyah Boston: "I got the tech?! Oh no!"

Clark joked about covering Boston's fine for her technical foul:

Caitlin Clark: "Have fun paying that fine. It's real hefty." (laughs)

The Fever will host the Atlanta Dream on Tuesday.
