Colts Coach Chuck Pagano Discusses Darius Richardson's Future with Team

Colts Coach Chuck Pagano believes that quarterback Darius Richardson should return to the team for another season, despite his inconsistent performance. In a recent interview, Pagano stated, “Unless you’re going to blow the whole thing up and get the GM, the head coach, the quarterback and total reset, like who are you going to go get? So I think you have to bring him back and you have to develop (him).”

Pagano acknowledges that Richardson has regressed since his rookie season, with a completion percentage below 50%. In his rookie year, Richardson had a 59.5% completion percentage and a 3-1 touchdown to interception ratio. This season, he has a 47.7% completion percentage with an 8-12 touchdown to interception ratio.

“He’s got to make a decision,” Pagano said. “I (Richardson) want to be a Pro Bowler. I want to be the franchise quarterback for this team.”

Pagano also emphasizes that the Colts need to surround Richardson with weapons and develop him, particularly in the tight end position where they have received limited production.
