Fever's Vibes Get a Boost
The Indiana Fever's "vibes are really good" according to All-Star Caitlin Clark. The team returned to practice for training camp this week, with a new head coach in Stephanie White and several new faces, including DeWanna Bonner and Natasha Howard.Veteran guard Kelsey Mitchell is excited about the changes, saying: "With the new atmosphere, new coaching, everything just absolutely new, it feels really good. It feels fresh, kind of like when you take your clothes out the dryer. Just fresh. It feels different, and it feels good."Clark agrees, noting that the team's great personalities will make it fun to watch. "We have so much great personality on this team," she said. "That's what's going to make it fun. That's what fans are going to love to watch about us. We're going to have a lot of fun playing basketball."However, Clark also acknowledges that the team will need time to figure out how their individual talents fit together. "Everybody knows we have all this talent, but at the same time, you got to put that together," she said. "It's not going to be like, 'Alright, you have all these great players. You step out on the court, it's going to work.' It's going to take a little bit of time to figure things out, figure out how everybody works with one another."As the season approaches in less than three weeks, the team is focusing on building chemistry. In fact, some players returned to Indy a month early just to get to know each other and do workouts together."This roster has a chance to do something really special this year," White said. "It's the deepest, most talented roster that I've really been a part of... You look at the depth of this roster and the opportunity to play with a lot of different lineups and play a lot of different ways."Clark agrees: "As far as teams I've coached in the W, it's the deepest, most talented roster that I've really been a part of. It's going to take a lot of selflessness from everybody... But at the same time, when you win, that's fun. Nobody cares about their personal stats. Nobody cares about how many points you scored, how many rebounds you had, how many minutes you play. Everybody's going to have to give a little bit, but that's what it takes to win."The team's first chance to show off their new chemistry will be at Saturday's preseason game against the Washington Mystics at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
