Former IU Guard Enters Transfer Portal
The number of Indiana Hoosiers basketball players entering the transfer portal has risen to four, with the latest addition being redshirt freshman guard Jakai Newton. The former four-star recruit joins Malik Reneau, Mackenzie Mgbako, and Gabe Cupps as former Hoosiers seeking a new home.
Newton, a Georgia native, played in only four games this past season, averaging 1.5 points per game.
This development leaves new head coach Darian DeVries with only three scholarship players remaining on the roster. The Hoosiers' top three scorers from last year have all departed: Reneau and Mgbako entered the transfer portal, while Oumar Ballo graduated.
A fourth scholarship player may return to the fold. Senior forward Luke Goode is petitioning the NCAA for an extra year of eligibility, which would allow him to return to Bloomington if granted. Goode averaged over nine points per game and was IU's fourth-best scorer.
