Franklin's Jersey Future in Question

The future of Zaire Franklin's jersey number, 44, is uncertain after the Indianapolis Colts selected tight end Tyler Warren with that same number in the first round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

Franklin, a linebacker and captain, has worn the No. 44 jersey for the Colts. While he hasn't spoken directly to Warren about the issue, he did reach out to congratulate him on his selection.

"He's a dawg," Franklin said. "I texted him and congratulated him on the big moment and the big opportunity. But, we got to go get these wins, man, and he looks ready to come help us win."

Warren was noncommittal when asked about the number, saying he hasn't looked into it yet but will have to make a decision.

"I haven’t really looked into it too much yet, so I’ll have to look into that and see what will happen," Warren said. "We’ll see."

The Colts had previously had Dallas Clark wear the No. 44 jersey, and he was inducted into the team's Ring of Honor in 2024. When Warren visited the Colts Complex after his selection, he received a call from Clark.

"You struck gold, brother," Clark said to Warren on a video posted by the Colts. "You are in the best organization, the best owner, Mr. Irsay, and the girls (Jim Irsay’s daughters) they are unbelievable. The city, the fans, it’s time to go to work, man. You’re going to fit in. You’re going to do great things."

Clark played nine seasons with the Colts, winning Super Bowl XLI with the team and accumulating 427 catches for 4,887 yards and 46 touchdowns.
