High-Speed Crash: Kyffin Simpson Goes Airborne on Turn 3

Kyffin Simpson, a driver for Chip Ganassi Racing, experienced a high-speed crash during practice leading up to the 2025 Indianapolis 500. The incident occurred on Fast Friday at Turn 4, where Simpson's car hit the wall and became airborne.

Simpson started spinning counter-clockwise at the end of the turn, resulting in contact with the wall on his car's front left side. He landed right-side-up but continued to spin, eventually bumping into the wall as he made his way to the pits.

"Feeling okay," Simpson said. "Tough hit, but praise the Lord I'm all good and just going to go discuss with the team and see where we are damage wise and try to move on."

Simpson reported feeling unusual throughout the run and plans to discuss what happened with his team.

"It was a bit weird," Simpson said. "I hit the wall and then I was in the air pretty soon after that but I didn't realize I was in the air until I took a look out the aeroscreen and I was like, 'Oh, that's the ground. That's not good.' Just glad I didn't end up on my roof."

Simpson also emphasized the importance of moving forward from the incident: "It's a tough one. All you can really do is hop back on the horse. Hopefully we can get back out today. If not, we'll just focus on tomorrow."

This marks Simpson's second Indianapolis 500 appearance, following his debut in 2024 where he qualified 18th and finished 21st. He currently sits 20th in the IndyCar Series Championship standings.

The next steps for the Indy 500 are qualification on Saturday and Pole Day on Sunday, with the 109th Running of the Indianapolis 500 scheduled for Sunday, May 25.
