Indy Ignite Makes History in First Game Against Orlando Valkyries

Indy Ignite is making history with its first-ever game against the Orlando Valkyries on Saturday night at the Fishers Event Center. The team has been building momentum since summer, led by President and General Manager Mary Kay Huse.

"We drafted a lot of exciting rookies that will be appearing tonight," she said. "And the team has been hard at work at training camp since the first week of December."

Volleyball has experienced growth over the years, but 2024 marked a milestone – it was the first year professional volleyball leagues could operate stateside. Indy Ignite is proud to be the league's first expansion team in Indianapolis.

"Now we're the first expansion team into the league and have the team right here in Indianapolis," Huse said. "What we believe is the best city for sports. And so, I mean, we have a great community here."

The team has already received enthusiastic support from Hoosiers, with the first game selling out quickly.

"We announced our sellout on Tuesday, which was very, very special and just a testament to the grassroots community we have here," Huse said. "We're absolutely a volleyball state. We're a sports state. And that's just shining through."

Though tickets for the first game are sold out, fans can still join in on the fun outside the event at 5 p.m., with a pre-party bonfire featuring mascots from around the city, s'mores, and a DJ.

"We know it's cold," Huse said. "But we have plenty of warmth outside and we have mascots from around the city joining us. We'll have s'mores. We have a DJ. So the party really starts at 5 o'clock."

For tonight's attendees, Huse promises a memorable experience, with athletic performances by the players and fun activities during timeouts and set breaks.

Tickets for the 2025 season are still available, starting at $30.
