IU Misses Out on March Madness

The Indiana Hoosiers missed out on March Madness for the second consecutive season, falling just short of an NCAA Tournament bid. Despite a strong final push to boost their resume, the 19-13 Hoosiers were left out in favor of West Virginia and the University of North Carolina.

“I’ll tell you, it was tough,” said committee chairman Bubba Cunningham. “Indiana didn’t have a single loss outside the first quadrant. They didn’t play that well in the challenging non-conference schedule, so the metrics were just slightly below the ones that ended up getting in.”

Cunningham was absent from the discussions on IU, as he serves as the director of athletics at UNC and recused himself to avoid any conflict of interest.

Committee vice chair Keith Gill provided further insight into the decision: “To be honest with you, when you look at the opportunities that they had in the Quad 1 area, they didn’t take advantage of those opportunities in a way. And their metrics were down relative to the teams that got into the field. That’s really what it came down to.”

The Hoosiers’ season officially comes to an end with their NCAA Tournament snub. The team will reportedly decline any invitations to either the NIT Tournament or The Crown, a new tournament in Las Vegas.

Next on the agenda is finding the team’s next head coach, as the Mike Woodson era has come to a close in Bloomington.
