Mike Woodson Expected to Join Sacramento Kings
Former Indiana University head coach Mike Woodson is expected to join the Sacramento Kings as an associate head coach, according to a report from ESPN's Shams Charania. Woodson spent the last four years coaching the Hoosiers, leading them to the NCAA Tournament in his first two years at the helm and going 82-53 overall.
“It’s been an incredible journey at Indiana," said Woodson. "I want to thank the administration, my players, and the entire IU community for their support.”
Woodson's last year at IU was the 2024-25 season. Prior to coaching at Indiana, he spent 22 years in the NBA as an assistant coach or head coach, making stops in Milwaukee, Cleveland, Philadelphia, Detroit, Atlanta, New York (twice), and Los Angeles with the Clippers.
In his most recent stint in the NBA, Woodson was an assistant coach with the Knicks from 2020-21. He also had stints as a head coach with the Hawks for six seasons (2004-2010) and the Knicks for three seasons (2011-2014).
Woodson is a native of Indianapolis and played at IU, where he averaged 19.8 points per game in his four seasons (1976-1980) and was the 1980 Big Ten Player of the Year.
The Kings finished the 2024-25 season with a record of 40-42, losing to the Dallas Mavericks in the Play-In Tournament.
