Pacers Brawl: Haliburton's Father Sparks Post-Game Shoving Match
Tyrese Haliburton's last-minute game-winning layup propelled the Pacers to a 119-118 win over the Bucks on Tuesday, securing their spot in the next playoff series. However, it was the post-game shoving match that has fans talking.
The intensity spilled over after the buzzer when John Haliburton, Tyrese's father, ran onto the court and got in Giannis Antetokounmpo's face.
Tyrese didn't see what happened until watching the video in the locker room. Later, he and Giannis discussed the exchange:
"I've won a championship, they haven't. Not trying to minimize their effort. Coming on the floor and showing me his son's towel with his face, saying 'this is what we do. this is what we f'n do'… I feel that's very – very disrespectful,"
Giannis said.
After the game, Tyrese addressed the incident:
"I think it's the emotions of the game, he just got excited there. I talked with him, eventually I'll talk with Giannis. I don't think my pops was right at all there,"
Tyrese said.
John Haliburton later posted an apology to Giannis, the Bucks, and the Pacers:
"I will not make that mistake again. My running on the court 'was not a good reflection on our sport or my son,'"
he wrote.
The Pacers advance to play the Cleveland Cavaliers in the Eastern Conference Semifinals, with Game 1 scheduled for Sunday, May 4. Tip time will be announced later.
