Purdue Loses to Texas A&M in Indianapolis
INDIANAPOLIS — Purdue struggled offensively in the second half, unable to recover from a late deficit and ultimately falling to Texas A&M, 70-66, at Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
During a critical stretch, the Boilermakers went scoreless for seven minutes, allowing Texas A&M to extend their lead to 12 points with a decisive 10-0 run.
Purdue faced challenges on the boards as well, being out-rebounded by 11. Texas A&M secured 14 offensive rebounds, achieving an impressive offensive rebound rate of 50%. The Aggies came into this matchup as the top offensive rebounding team in the country, boasting a rate of 43.4% on their missed shots.
Braden Smith was the standout for Purdue, leading the team with 15 points. Remarkably, only six players contributed to the scoring effort for the Boilermakers, with each of them finishing with nine points or more.
Purdue's next challenge will be against second-ranked Auburn on Saturday, December 21 in Birmingham.
