Scott McLaughlin Earns U.S. Citizenship
Cue the Star-Spangled Banner!
IndyCar driver Scott McLaughlin has announced that he's officially an American citizen, making him a dual citizen of both the United States and his home country of New Zealand.
“So honoured to be able to join my daughter and wife as an American Citizen,” McLaughlin posted. “Consider myself very lucky to now have dual citizenship in 2 amazing countries.”
Fellow driver Felix Rosenqvist congratulated McLaughlin on the news, posting a message of congratulations.
McLaughlin made the announcement ahead of this weekend's race at Barber Motorsports Park in Alabama, where he is looking to add to his success after winning the last two Alabama Grand Prix.
Last season, McLaughlin won three races, including the Barber win, and finished third in the standings. This year, his best finish was a fourth-place result in the season opener at St. Petersburg, where he led the most laps.
Barber is the last race before IndyCar takes over the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Month of May starting with the Grand Prix on the IMS road course May 10. McLaughlin looks to continue his strong form into the Month of May, which includes the Indianapolis 500.
