Steelers Rookie Derrick Harmon Mourns Mother's Passing Following NFL Draft Selection

Steelers rookie Derrick Harmon is mourning the passing of his mother, Tiffany Saine, following his selection in the NFL draft. Saine died late Thursday night, just hours after Harmon was picked by Pittsburgh with the 21st overall pick.

Harmon had spoken publicly about his plans to visit his mother, who was on life support at a hospital in the Detroit suburbs. Saine had undergone several brain surgeries and suffered a stroke in recent years. Harmon credited his mother as an inspiration for him to persevere through challenges, including his transfer from Michigan State to Oregon.

Steelers President Art Rooney II offered condolences to the team's newest star:

“Though we are excited to select Derrick in the first round of the NFL Draft, our hearts are heavy as we mourn the death of his mother, Tiffany Saine. We will support Derrick and his family however we can as he navigates this period of grief. In times like this, we hope Derrick finds comfort in the love and support from the organization and Steelers fans around the world.”
