Top Tight End in NFL Draft Shares Thoughts on Anthony Richardson
The Indianapolis Colts are in need of a boost at the tight end position after a disappointing 2024 season.
Last year, no Colts tight end managed to surpass 200 receiving yards, with only two touchdowns coming from that position.
A potential solution could be Tyler Warren, the top-ranked tight end in the NFL draft class. A first-round pick in April, Warren has been making a name for himself at Penn State.
Warren recently met with the Colts and expressed his admiration for quarterback Anthony Richardson. "He's definitely one of a kind and a heck of an athlete at the quarterback position and is a great quarterback too," Warren said.
In addition to his praise for Richardson, Warren also spoke highly of Lucas Oil Stadium and Indianapolis. "I've been to Indy before and I like the stadium a lot, and kind of the area" Warren said. "Just the opportunity to have the chance to play in the NFL and if it was here, that would be awesome."
Warren's impressive credentials include leading the Big Ten in catches with 104 in 2024, as well as 1,233 receiving yards and eight touchdowns. He also proved himself as a threat in the run game, accumulating 26 carries for 218 yards and four touchdowns.
However, Warren wasn't always the top player at his position. In his first year at Penn State, he didn't record any catches. By the end of his third year, he still hadn't reached 200 career receiving yards.
"When I got to Penn State, I wasn’t really a fully developed tight end yet," Warren said. "I had to kind of wait my turn and learn from guys in front of me and understanding that I wasn’t at the point that I needed to be able to play and contribute."
Warren credits his unselfishness as one of his greatest strengths, saying he's willing to do whatever it takes to help his team win. "Whether its catching 15 passes a game or having a hundred run block reps, I’m going to do either of those to the best of my ability and if we win, I’m going to be happy either way," Warren said.
