Wrestling Group Honors Man Who Died in Accident During Severe Storms

A Danville man, Nathan Merritt, 27, died after his truck hit downed power lines during severe storms in the area. The Hendricks County Sheriff's Office identified Merritt as the victim.

Deputies responded to a possible crash with injuries around 9:30 p.m. on County Road 75 West and found several downed power lines blocking the roads. They also discovered a blue 2007 Dodge pickup truck on fire off the roadway, where Merritt was found lying unresponsive.

Power company employees arrived to cut off the live wires, and first responders pronounced Merritt dead at the scene.

Investigators believe Merritt was driving north when he hit downed power lines in the road and eventually came to a stop. Sometime after, he got out of the pickup truck and came into contact with the live line, resulting in his death.

Merritt was honored by members of Warrior Pro Wrestling, an independent wrestling group based out of Danville, where he worked as the sound and production director. WPW said they will miss Merritt's smile, excitement, and dedication to not just their show but to independent wrestling across the state.

“Our WPW family will miss his smile, excitement, and dedication to not just our show but to independent wrestling across the state. Prayers are with his son Tatum and the entire Merritt family.”

“Nathan was a huge part of the Indiana independent wrestling community and we are all rallying around his family right now,” a spokesperson shared.
