Big Game Frenzy Hits Fountain Square's Restaurants and Bars
The big game has arrived in Fountain Square's restaurants and bars, with many establishments gearing up for crowds and takeout orders. Restaurants across Fountain Square, Fletcher Place, and the Bates-Hendricks Neighborhood are celebrating the big day in their own ways.
Cody Neville, owner of the Red Lion Grog House, says they're prepped and ready to go for today with both dine-in and takeout options available. "We have a ton of TVs, so I think we'll be a place for those that want to watch the game. We do have our wings, which will be a great thing for people to come in... But being that Fountain Square is a neighborhood location, I'm hoping a lot of people come in." Neville said.
The Red Lion Grog House is offering $1 wings and half-priced appetizers. Bowhaus is hosting a chili cook-off, with the winner taking home a ring for the best chili. Owner Wendy Popov says the contest makes their prep so much easier: "The customers are bringing their chili tonight, this is our second annual chili cook-off." The party kicks off at 6:30 p.m.
Dugout Bar is expecting a full crowd, with owner Nick Baxter saying they're usually a destination for sports fans. Today, they're offering a Super Bowl watch party: "We'll fill up. I think it's a crap shoot, you're going up against people having parties at their house this time of year, but we expect to be full, expect a great crowd." Baxter said.
Magdalena is offering half-off all wine bottles. If you're looking to escape the game for a bit or take a bottle of wine to a party, then Magdalena is your spot: "We're trying to make a place that has our toes in both sides. If you want to shelter away from TVs and get away from the game a little bit, come in and get a bottle of wine half off, get some oysters or a steak frites. But also, if you're going to watch the game somewhere, grab a bottle to go." Nick Detrich said.
