Braun Reveals Appointments for Education and Commerce Secretaries
INDIANAPOLIS — Governor-elect Mike Braun has announced that Dr. Katie Jenner will continue her role as the Secretary of Education for Indiana in the upcoming year.
This appointment marks the first time a member from the Holcomb administration will serve alongside Braun. Dr. Jenner has held the position of Indiana’s Secretary of Education for the past four years, having been appointed by Gov. Eric Holcomb in 2021 as the first appointee to this role rather than an elected official.
“Dr. Jenner’s proven track record of elevating Indiana’s education system makes her the ideal choice to continue leading our state’s academic initiatives,” Gov.-elect Braun stated in a news release. “Her focus on literacy, STEM education, and workforce readiness aligns perfectly with our vision for Indiana’s future.”
“Over the past several years, we have made significant strides in expanding educational opportunities and ensuring our students are prepared for success in the classroom and beyond,” Dr. Jenner remarked. “Working together with Governor-elect Braun, our dedicated teachers, school leaders, the General Assembly, and stakeholders across the state, we will build upon this progress while addressing the evolving needs of our education system. I look forward to advancing this vital mission in the years ahead.”
Braun also shared his education agenda which includes:
- Implementing universal school choice for all Indiana families regardless of income
- Increasing teacher base pay and establishing performance-based compensation
- Enhancing school safety through a new Office of School Safety
- Investing in workforce development through:
- The creation of a Hoosier Workforce Investment Tax Credit
- A restructured Indiana Economic Development Corporation
- Enhanced regional collaboration for job creation
- Focusing on improved literacy and math outcomes with evidence-based curriculum
In addition to his education appointments, on Thursday Braun named David Adams as Indiana’s next Secretary of Commerce.
Adams previously served as the Commissioner of Workforce Development for the state.
“David’s proven track record of driving economic growth and innovation makes him the ideal choice to lead Indiana’s commerce initiatives,” said Braun. “His experience in workforce development combined with his entrepreneurial success and ability to attract major investments will help accelerate Indiana’s economic momentum.”
Braun plans to restructure his leadership team to reflect a Cabinet model similar to that used by presidents.
