E-Learning Implemented Due to Teacher Absence Crisis
Indianapolis Public Schools is switching to e-learning on Monday due to a high number of teacher absences. This move follows similar actions taken by Pike Township Schools and Monroe County Community School Corp. in Marion and Monroe counties, respectively.
"We've used all our asynchronous days for the year, so we're going to add an extra day to make up for it," said IPS spokesperson.
On Monday, students will work independently on assignments, which are due on April 21. Families can expect communication from their schools regarding their students' tasks. This is an asynchronous day, meaning students won't be required to log in at a specific time.
To meet the Indiana Department of Education's requirement of 180 days of instruction, IPS will add an extra in-person day to its calendar. As a result, the last day of school for students will move from May 20 to May 23, and for staff, it will be May 27.
