Bitter Cold Temps and Snowy Roads Expected on Thursday
Frigid temperatures are expected to keep roads slick for Thursday morning's drive, with a warming trend on the horizon. Heavy snow bands have moved off to the south and east, leaving some light flurries around the metro area overnight.
"Please use caution when traveling this morning, as frigid temperatures won't help the melting process much as we approach the morning commute,"
This morning:
Side streets, and even some main roads in populated areas, are completely snow-covered. Interstates are in better shape but still have patches of snow cover.
"Some lingering flurries will hang around through mid-morning; otherwise, we're left with mostly cloudy skies for much of the day today,"
Thursday:
Temperatures will remain very cold, with highs only reaching the upper teens and lower 20s this afternoon.
"Some lake-effect snow showers will continue to try to push into the northern portions of our state during the overnight hours,"
Thursday night:
This could bring just some light flurries, which may be enough to lightly coat some streets overnight.
"High pressure will begin to settle in on Friday and will stick around for the next several days, meaning the weather pattern will really start to quiet down,"
Friday:
Friday will be another chilly day, but temperatures should improve, with highs topping out in the upper 20s and lower 30s under mostly sunny conditions.
"Warming will continue heading into the weekend with quiet weather. Highs should reach the mid-30s by Saturday and the 40s by Sunday,"
Weekend forecast:
This would put us much closer to the seasonal average for this time of year.
"Continued warmth is expected as we head into next week. Look for highs to reach around 50°F on Monday. We could even make a run into the mid-50s for Tuesday and Wednesday,"
Next week:
The next precipitation chances will likely come on Tuesday and Wednesday as that warmer air moves through and a deeper surface low brings rain chances to the area.
