Body Found Inside Vehicle on Shelby Street

A man was found dead Wednesday inside a vehicle on Indianapolis' south side, according to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD).

At 12:17 p.m. Wednesday, IMPD Southeast District officers were dispatched to the 7600 block of Shelby Street on a report of a person down. Officers arrived at the scene and found an unresponsive adult male with trauma injuries inside a vehicle. Emergency medical services pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Homicide detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation, and the Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency assisted in identifying and collecting potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner's Office will determine the exact manner and cause of death.

After further investigation, it was found that the man had suffered gunshot wound injuries.

The victim has been identified as 21-year-old Demetrius Starks.
