Catch of a Lifetime: Teen Burglar Caught After Parent Recognizes Their Child
A parent's recognition has solved the case of a mysterious clown-masked burglar who had been causing chaos in Vanderburgh County, Indiana. The 16-year-old thief was caught on camera wearing a "clown-like mask" and stealing cash, laptops, and designer handbags from several homes and vehicles.
The burglaries took place in the Wellington Acres neighborhood in Evansville over two days in June. The thief was seen trying to break into cars and homes, with some homeowners reporting attempted break-ins and removed window screens.
"The juvenile provided a full confession during an interview with detectives. A search warrant was executed at the suspect's residence, where investigators recovered multiple stolen items,"
After circulating images of the masked person online, a parent recognized their child in the videos and brought them to the Sheriff's Office. The 16-year-old confessed to the crimes and authorities recovered all the stolen goods.
"We are grateful to the parent who demonstrated courage and integrity by doing the right thing, even under difficult circumstances," Sheriff Noah Robinson said. "Their decision to bring their child forward not only aided our investigation, but also gave this young person an opportunity to face consequences and access the resources available through Juvenile Court."
The 16-year-old was taken to juvenile court for three felonies and two misdemeanors.
