Central Indiana Bracing for Snow Showers Tonight

Central Indiana is bracing for snow showers tonight, with light accumulations expected to make travel slippery across the state. This morning, light snow showers are moving in from the west, with flurries and possibly a light dusting possible for the morning drive.

Temperatures are running cold this morning, hovering in the low to mid-teens. By tonight, scattered snow showers will pivot east and arrive in the metro area around 6-8 PM, gradually winding down late tonight and early overnight with only light flurries expected.

"We do expect additional snow for the evening hours," said a meteorologist. "Starting around 4 or 5 PM in the western portions of the state, scattered snow showers will pivot east and arrive in the metro area by 6-8 PM."

Most areas around Central Indiana could see as much as an inch, maybe as much as 2 inches on the extreme high end. However, bitterly cold temperatures are expected in the wake of our system moving through, with cloudy skies, flurries, and overnight lows in the single digits.

The cold snap is expected to continue into Thursday, with mostly cloudy skies and a few flurries expected throughout the day. Highs will be in the upper teens and lower 20s.

By Friday, we will settle into a quiet weather pattern, with gradually warming temperatures. Temperatures are expected to remain about 10-15° below average through next week, but by Sunday, highs will be in the upper 30s and lower 40s.

"For the first time in a while, we'll be looking at above-average temperatures heading into early next week," said another meteorologist. "Highs will be in the mid and upper 40s for Monday, and many areas could surge close to 50° on Tuesday, which will also bring our next chance for rain showers to our area."
