Central Indiana Under Heat Advisory as Temperatures Soar Above 100 Degrees This Week

Central Indiana is under a heat advisory until late Friday as temperatures soar above 100 degrees this week. The region can expect extreme heat with heat indices ranging between 100 and 105°F during peak afternoon hours each day.

"The heat will be intense, especially today," said a meteorologist. "We're expecting highs in the mid-90s, with heat indices as high as 105°F." Today is expected to start quietly with mostly sunny skies, but scattered showers and thunderstorms are forecasted due to unstable air conditions.

"Some of these storms could be stronger, with hail and damaging winds as primary concerns," said another meteorologist. "Isolated heavy downpours will also be possible with any storm that develops." High temperatures today will reach the mid-90s, with heat indices as high as 105°F.

Wednesday will be very similar to today, with sunny skies for much of the day and a few pop-up thunderstorms developing in the second half. Some of these storms could produce hail and damaging winds, while isolated heavy downpours are also possible.

"Thursday and Friday will bring highs in the low to mid-90s, with heat indices over 100°F," said a meteorologist. "Isolated afternoon thunderstorms will also be possible toward the end of the week." The high pressure responsible for the extreme heat this week is expected to break down over the weekend.

"We should see a few waves of energy moving through the Midwest, bringing scattered shower and thunderstorm chances on both Saturday and Sunday," said another meteorologist. "The weekend is not expected to be a complete washout, but more numerous chances are likely." A cold front moving in on Monday could bring more widespread rain and thunderstorm risks, as well as cooler conditions.
