Chilly Weather Continues: Cool Trend Through Weekend
Chilly weather is expected to continue through the weekend in central Indiana, with high temperatures running 10-15° below average.
A large area of low pressure over the Great Lakes will keep conditions cloudy, cool, breezy, and at times damp on Thursday. Expect isolated showers to develop this afternoon, but coverage will be limited and any rain should be relatively light.
High temperatures will reach only the upper 50s to lower 60s, with blustery winds making it feel even colder.
"Today's weather is going to be very similar to Wednesday's," a forecaster said. "We're expecting cloudy, cool, breezy conditions with isolated showers developing this afternoon."
Thursday night will bring clearing skies and fog development in the western portions of the state, with temperatures dropping to the low to mid-40s.
Friday looks favorable for Carb Day, with mainly dry conditions and partly cloudy skies. High temperatures will reach the mid-60s.
Saturday's holiday weekend weather is expected to be relatively quiet, with partly cloudy skies and slightly warmer temperatures. Highs will reach near 70°F, still about 5°F below average.
However, cloud cover will increase on Race Day (Sunday) with a good chance of precipitation in the southern half of the state, mainly south of the I-70 corridor. Rain is likely after 2 or 3 p.m., making it uncertain whether Indianapolis Motor Speedway will stay dry for the second half of the race.
Sunday will remain cloudy and cool, with high temperatures in the mid-60s.
Memorial Day weather is expected to follow a similar pattern, with another wave moving in from the north and west bringing rain chances to the southern half of the state in the afternoon. High temperatures will reach the mid-60s.
The cool pattern continues into the short workweek, with highs failing to get out of the 60s and scattered rain and storms possible through the middle of next week.
