Ex-Brownsburg Teacher Sentenced to Probation for Forcing Child to Eat Vomit
A former Brownsburg teacher who was accused of forcing a special needs student to eat his own vomit has been sentenced to less than a year of probation.
Sara Seymour, a former life skills teacher at Brown Elementary School, was arrested and charged in 2023 after the incident occurred. According to reports, she told the student to eat his own vomit in a school lunchroom, and a teacher's aide handed him a spoon. The student ate some of the vomit before using paper towels to clean up what was left.
The incident was caught on camera and witnessed by several other staff members, but it was not reported to administration until April 2023. A police investigation followed, leading to Seymour being charged with felony neglect of a dependent and misdemeanor failure to report.
Seymour took a plea deal from prosecutors, pleading guilty to one count of neglect. A judge accepted the deal and dropped her charge of failure to report. Seymour was granted a suspended one-year jail sentence and ordered to 363 days on probation. She was also ordered to stay away from the victim and his family.
Seymour's teaching license was revoked in June, and she was fired by the school in May 2023.
