Heat Advisory Continues Through Friday
A strong area of high pressure continues to dominate the eastern half of the United States, bringing extremely hot and humid conditions across the Midwest. Heat indices are expected to range between 100 and 105°F every day this week.
Heat advisories remain in effect through late Friday. Expect mostly sunny skies on Monday with highs in the mid-90s and feels-like temperatures reaching as high as 105°F. Clear, quiet, and uncomfortably warm and humid conditions are expected overnight, with lows falling to the mid-70s.
"It's going to be a challenging week," said [Name]. "The heat indices will be extreme, and people need to take precautions."
The middle of the week may bring some changes as the ridge of high pressure slowly starts to break down. As the high weakens, we could see small daily rain chances during the afternoon and early evening hours, coinciding with peak daytime heating.
Many areas will likely stay dry, but a few fortunate locations could experience downpours, providing some relief from the extreme heat.
On Tuesday, the northern portions of the state have a marginal risk, or a Level 1 out of 5 risk, for severe storms. Damaging winds and large hail would be the primary concerns.
"There's a slight chance of severe weather on Tuesday," said [Name]. "People should stay informed and take necessary precautions."
By the weekend, the high pressure should break down considerably, allowing several upper-level waves to move through the region. Both Saturday and Sunday show opportunities for rain and thunderstorms, with temperatures slightly cooler but still well above average, topping out around 90°F.
"We're expecting a better chance of rain by the weekend," said [Name]. "It could bring some relief from the heat."
Looking beyond the extended forecast, a cold front moving through on Monday could bring our next best chance for widespread rain and potentially some relief from the extreme heat as we begin the month of July.
