Heroic Rescue: 2 Women and Dog Saved from Frozen Pond
In a heroic rescue effort, two women and their dog were saved from a frozen pond in Greenwood, Indiana. The incident occurred when one of the women attempted to rescue her dog from the ice, but ended up falling through herself.
The fire department was called to the retention pond behind homes on Winterwood Drive around 5 p.m. Friday. When they arrived, they found that a neighbor had also fallen through the ice while trying to help the woman.
“Before emergency crews arrived, a woman had fallen through the ice while trying to rescue her dog, and a neighbor who attempted to help also went under the ice,” said Tyler Swardson, public information officer for the Greenwood Fire Department. “The two women reached the edge of the water with the help of the neighbor who used a rope to pull them to safety.”
Greenwood Police Department officers and the neighbor helped the women into an ambulance, where they were found to be stable. The dog was also safely rescued.
