Man Dragged by ATV Before Fatal Incident While Hiding in Bushes
In Terre Haute, Indiana, a fatal incident occurred while a man was in police custody on June 28. According to Indiana State Police, Shane Hedden, 48, died after being arrested by police while hiding in bushes.
The incident began when an Indiana Department of Natural Resource conservation officer found Hedden and another DNR officer riding all-terrain-vehicles. The conservation officer got off his ATV, identified himself, and ordered Hedden to stop. However, Hedden ignored the officer's command.
Hedden attempted to evade the Conservation Officer, driving away, dragging the officer approximately ten yards.
The chase continued for another 150 yards before West Terre Haute Police Department officers found Hedden hiding in a bush. As he was being arrested, Hedden complained about chest pain and then collapsed.
Officers started first-aid and CPR on Hedden, but he was pronounced deceased at the hospital. Preliminary findings from an autopsy indicate that Hedden did not die from trauma, but further toxicology and pathologist reports are pending. Once those have been released, the cause of death will be determined.
