Off-Duty Officer Shot While Recovering Stolen Vehicle Near Arsenal Technical High School

An off-duty officer was shot on Monday morning while trying to recover a stolen vehicle near Arsenal Technical High School in Indianapolis.

The incident occurred around 6:30 a.m. when IMPD officers responded to a "person shot" call, which was later updated to a "shots fired" run. Upon arrival, they found the victim suffering from a gunshot wound.

According to IMPD Ofc. Tommy Thompson, the officer's injuries are minor and he is in good, stable condition at the hospital.

The shooting stemmed from an incident involving a stolen vehicle, which was later recovered by police. The off-duty officer chased after the stolen vehicle and sustained injuries during the process. Detectives believe both parties fired shots, but did not specify how many or if the officer fired a weapon.

Police are still searching for two suspects: one wearing a black hoodie with tan or gray pants, and another wearing either a gray or white top with black pants.

Arsenal Tech was placed on lockdown, but was lifted shortly after 9 a.m. The surrounding area, including the 600 block of Woodruff Place Drive West, remains closed for investigation. Drivers are asked to avoid the area, and anyone with information is encouraged to contact 911 if they witness anything suspicious.
