Off-Road Vehicle Accident Claims Life, Injures Three in Jefferson County

A fatal off-road vehicle accident occurred in Jefferson County, claiming the life of one person and injuring three others.

The accident happened on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. on South River Bottom Road. According to investigators, Charles Howell, 75, of Hanover, was operating an off-road vehicle with three passengers when it ran off the road and rolled multiple times down a hill.

“No occupants were wearing a seatbelt or helmet at the time of the accident,” said an investigator.

Charles Howell and Jacquelyn Howell, 74, both suffered serious injuries and were flown to University of Louisville Hospital. Donald McAlister, 55, of Madison, Indiana, was taken to King’s Daughters Hospital in Ashland, Kentucky, with minor injuries. Unfortunately, Paula McAlister, 56, of Madison, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing, and a toxicology report has been requested to rule out any potential contributing factors.
