Police Pursuit Concludes with Crash on Keystone Parkway; Suspect Charged with Crimes

CARMEL, Ind. — A 31-year-old man is facing multiple criminal charges following a police pursuit that ended in a crash on Keystone Parkway late Saturday night into early Sunday morning.

Raheem David Murray is currently held at the Hamilton County jail in Noblesville.

According to Carmel police, officers initiated a chase when Murray drove onto the southbound lanes of northbound Keystone Parkway. Shortly thereafter, he collided with another vehicle and fled the scene on foot, but was apprehended by officers soon after.

The driver of the other vehicle, whose identity has not been disclosed by police, was treated at a nearby hospital and later released.

Images taken around midnight Saturday showed a white SUV overturned north of 116th Street as authorities redirected traffic away from the parkway.

Carmel police shared photos indicating they recovered a suitcase containing plastic bags of marijuana, a firearm, and evidence of a damaged black car. As of late Sunday afternoon, inquiries for further details regarding these items had not received an immediate response from law enforcement.

The circumstances leading to Murray's initial pursuit remain unclear, as police have not disclosed what prompted the chase or the exact time when the crash occurred.

Jail records indicate that Murray was booked at 3:30 a.m. Sunday and faces several preliminary felony charges including marijuana dealing; possession of marijuana; unlawful carrying of a handgun following a felony conviction within the last 15 years; and resisting law enforcement. Additionally, he faces misdemeanor charges for driving while suspended; reckless driving; and leaving the scene of an accident.

Online court records reveal that an arrest warrant was issued for Murray in April by Marion Superior Court 27. In February 2023, he pleaded guilty to felony counts related to unlawful carrying of a handgun after a prior felony conviction and marijuana dealing. Subsequently, Magistrate Peggy Ryan Hart sentenced him to two years in a work release program minus time served prior to sentencing.
