Severe Weather Expected This Evening

Significant severe weather is possible throughout the afternoon and evening hours today, with all severe weather threats on the table. The southern metro area and Southern Indiana are under a heightened tornado threat.

Today will be warm, with highs reaching the upper 70s to near 80°, well above normal for this time of year. A wind advisory is in place until about 1:00 AM Thursday morning, with non-thunderstorm wind gusts reaching 45-50 mph.

The best chance for significant severe weather will develop after 5:00 PM, with damaging winds, hail, and the potential for not only tornadoes but significant tornadoes possible. It's crucial to have a safety plan in place when thunderstorms develop, take all warnings seriously, and get into your safe space.

Tonight, thunderstorms will continue through about midnight, with rain finally coming to an end overnight as temperatures fall to 58°.

Tomorrow, mostly cloudy skies are expected, with another round of rain likely later in the afternoon and evening. This sets up potential flooding concerns for the rest of the week and into the weekend. Highs on Thursday will climb into the upper 60s.

In the extended forecast, we're looking at significant rainfall across much of the state through Sunday morning, with a flood watch in place. Waves of rain will make rivers rise, and we could see some flooding potential. High temperatures on Friday and Saturday will be into the lower 60s. Rain finally comes to an end early Sunday morning, followed by cooler temperatures.
