Shark Attack Strikes American Tourists in Bahamas
Two American women were attacked by a shark while visiting the Bahamas last week.
The Royal Bahamas Police Force reported that the attack occurred on Friday around 6:30 p.m. in Bimini Bay, a popular spot for tourists.
The victims, identified as 20-year-old Rileigh Decker and 24-year-old Summer Layman, were treated at a local clinic before being airlifted to New Providence for further medical attention. One of the women has serious injuries.
NBC: "We were on a boat ride and decided to jump in the water... I felt something tug my leg down and knew immediately I had been bitten by a shark."
According to an interview with NBC's "The Today Show", Decker explained that she was on a boat ride with Layman when they decided to take a swim. She felt something tugging at her leg, which prompted her to realize she had been bitten by a shark.
The women are both expected to make a full recovery.
